Human Services
The Human Services Department provides a variety of services aimed at meeting the human service needs of Windham residents in order to promote a maximum quality of life.
The Department is located in the Town Hall at 979 Main Street, Willimantic, Connecticut. Office Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Friday. Emergencies at other times should be directed to the Willimantic Police Department. Call during normal working hours for information regarding any program listed below.
Services Provided
- School Readiness and Child Day Care Grant Program
- Full-day, full-year or part-day, school-year programs are available for three and four year old children. This program is available to residents of all income levels.
- Counseling/Case Management Programs Insurance/Medicare/Medicaid Counseling through the CHOICES Program
- A Windham Resource Directory for Seniors is available on-line.
- Information and Referral
- Fee Waivers and Reductions
- The Human Services Department processes applications for Fee Waivers or Reductions for a variety of services, consistent with Town ordinance.
- Shelter Services
- Emergency shelter referral and transport, and shelter management during disasters.
- Miscellaneous Services
- Coordination of town services with Community Agencies, Information and Referral, and work with other town initiatives, including:
- School Readiness Council, Neighborhood Revitalization Zone, and the Windham Housing Partnership.
